As a mom of two I know how hard preparing to have a baby is. There is so much to get together, to buy, and to prepare for. The list seems endless. I remember (especially with my first) how much I thought I needed to get done before she came. The room had to be done, organized and all ready. The house had to be all cleaned and all the baby things (the swing, the mamaroo, the play mat...) had to be put together and waiting for her to come home.
My hospital bag was packed with everything I thought I ever would need. Let's just say I didn't use 95% of the items in my bag. I stayed in the hospital gown so none of my clothes or pajamas every got used (except the going home outfit). I had outfits for my daughter to wear, but she didn't wear those either. I had packed tons of snacks that completely went untouched. Even my shampoo and conditioner and towel went unused (I just used the hospitals).
It is funny how everything changed with my son. His room wasn't ready (I did try but Covid had everything backed up so his room set took 7 months to get here). I packed very little for our hospital stay, but this time I wore my pajamas and I did put Connor in a sleeper.
One preparation that I never thought about with my daughter was newborn photos. She was born before I went into newborn photography. I tried to do some photos myself, but it was a hundred times harder than I ever thought it would be. I realized then why newborn photographers are expensive. The training involved to become a good newborn photographer is important, plus the ridiculous prices on all the props, wraps, and just everything used in a newborn session.
Don't regret getting your baby's newborn photos done like I did with my first. That was a special time and I definitely missed out on capturing those memories. As she gets older and older I wished I had those adorable shots like I do of my son when he was a newborn. Babies are only little once and we should capture everything we can to preserve this precious time.
Booking your newborn photographer in your second trimester...even the beginning of your third trimester is an important preparation just like getting their crib put together. You need to find the newborn photographer that fits your family and your vision for newborn photos.
